OUR STORY

MEET THE DESIGNER
Odyssey Bags and Totes represent the passions and life journeys of their creator, Terry Breaux. A bikepacker, world traveler and outdoor equipment designer, today Terry has reinvented himself again as tugboat engineer. For weeks at a time, he sails to the wildly remote and mystic coastlines of Alaska. Out there, he pursues his love of exploration. In between voyages, he found himself in need of a creative outlet and began hand-sewing bags and totes as gifts for friends.
Terry’s diverse life experiences—from pedaling the backroads of foreign countries to navigating the cold waters of the Inside Passage and Aleutian Islands—inspire his bag’s rugged yet elegant designs. Their organic, flowing curves mimic those he sees in nature. As a designer and fabricsmith, Terry also knows the importance of quality construction and fine detailing. Key details of his nautical line are made from decommissioned liferafts from local vessels. Like his life, each creation is unique and is filled with stories from his odysseys through the natural and creative worlds.
OUR FABRICS
Odyssey’s bottom and strap fabric is sourced from decommissioned commercial life rafts in the Pacific Northwest. While life raft emergencies are rare, the U.S. Coast Guard mandates annual inspection and inflation of these rafts, ensuring they are reliable when needed. After being cleaned, this material is given a second life in our products, offering unmatched strength and performance.
Our 12 oz cotton canvas is treated with natural beeswax, offering a stiffer, more robust material compared to paraffin-coated versions. This beeswax coating not only provides incredible water resistance but also develops a unique patina over time, much like leather. As your bag ages, it tells your story with marks and scratches that lighten, giving it a rugged, craftsman-inspired look.

ORIGINS
ODYSSEY ICON
Day signs are visual symbols displayed on vessels to indicate specific functions, conditions, or warnings during daylight hours - from sunrise to sunset. These signs help inform other vessels and authorities about the boat’s purpose or any special considerations required.
The day sign used in the Odyssey icon identifies vessels engaged in towing, symbolizing movement, travel and carrying precious cargo.
